JPG, PNG or WebP: which image format should you use?
Choose the right format for photographs, transparency and the web.
Why this order matters
JPG and WebP are efficient for photographs with many colour changes, while PNG is reliable for logos, diagrams and transparent backgrounds. WebP often produces smaller files, but the receiving website must support it.
Check the destination first
If the receiving website or authority publishes its own format and size requirements, follow those instructions first. Keep the original and work on a copy.
