How to make product photos sharp and lightweight

Use cropping, resizing and compression in the right order.

Why this order matters

Uploading the largest possible product photo does not always improve its appearance. Crop for the sales channel first, resize to a sensible display resolution and compress last to balance detail with loading speed.

Check the destination first

If the receiving website or authority publishes its own format and size requirements, follow those instructions first. Keep the original and work on a copy.

Recommended workflow

  1. Check the marketplace’s recommended ratio, minimum pixels and file-size limit.
  2. Crop consistently so the product remains centred across the catalogue.
  3. Resize for display and then compress as JPG or WebP.

Checks before saving

Zoom in on the result and open it once in the environment where it will be used. Automated calculations and conversions are convenient reference tools, not a substitute for the receiving organisation’s final decision.
